A New Carreer?
Yup, it was time for a change that needed to happen.
Although Information Technology pays good money it does little for the family in the way of togetherness. I needed to take a break and my ex-employeer was happy to help me make a decision by laying me off.
So now I am laid off and what to do? Well first thing is to cement my relationship with my then 2 1/2 year old daughter. It was in need of some serious repair as my job kept me away from home for an extensive amount of time. Well after about 8 months of hard work and a decision to home school my daughter, things are much better and happier all around.
How to earn some kind of living? Well this was not as difficult as I might have thought because of some friends and family that were nearby to help provide the answer even if they did not know they did so. My father was in realestate for better than 30 years and honestly I could not tell you how much of the time he was not around because of it due to his employer. These days things are a bit different and the hours can still be demanding in certain areas of the field 2 other newer friends that I met from my local home schooling group help with the final part of the solution. They work part time in realestate, a couple of weekends a month and 2 or 3 days during the week for a few hours. After working at it for a few months they started making decent money at it.
So off to school I go for getting my realestate provisional license. I just finished recently taking my classes at the time of this writing, (Tuesday 5th, 2002), I am preparing for taking the state exam. That is as time allows also with a now 3 year old daughter who keeps me quite busy, not to mention in addition to selling, packing and moving a house.
So the jury is still out on wether this will work, but it looks like a good opportunity that I can take advantage of at this time.
Am I going to turn my back on Information Technology. Not at all, I have too much invested in it to ignore my abilities and training, but there is one serious difference. I will not allow the job to run my life ever again. So I am planning doing some consulting to make some money when I can and keep my skill set up and somewhat current.
Thats about it for now and I hope it gives you a good idea of what took place for the change.
Regards,
Steve
